Expert Tips on Ways to Increase Liquid Intake During Winters

Children should be encouraged to drink more water during the winter months. This is because we tend to feel less thirsty in cold weather and as a result drink less. Drinking less water causes the body fluid levels to drop which can result in dehydration and fatigue. The little ones also tend to lose more fluids from their bodies should they fall sick. Thus in a bid to replenish the lost fluids, the child should drink water in adequate amounts.

Here are some tips to keep your child hydrated in the winter.

Fruits and vegetables–Many fruits and vegetables are high in water content, such as celery, watermelon, cucumbers and many more. Include these in your child’s meals and snacks.

Milk – Instead of a regular glass of milk, you can give Turmeric Milk. This healthy winter drink is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory properties. To spice up you can even add dry fruit powder blending almonds, pistachios, cashews, saffron, nutmeg etc.

Juice – One of the most efficient and effective ways to boost your body’s immunity is through fruit and vegetable juices of–Apples, Oranges, Pineapple Carrots, Beetroot etc. These juices will flood your child’s blood cells with nutrition and boost their immune system.

Water Bottles – Water is the best choice to keep your kids hydrated throughout the day even in winter. Make water bottles a habit of carrying in the winter. Include water bottles in your child’s lunch and encourage them to use them during and after meals as well as physical activities. You can even add fruits to flavour the water.

Soups–A generous amount of nutrition and energy-packed with warmth is what a bowl of soup is all about. Easy to prepare and consume, it is the ultimate comfort food and helps increase water intake in winters. Spinach soup, Pumpkin soup, Chicken soup, Lentil soup is the best not only because of their flavour but also because of the nutrients they have.
