Hakuna Matata – Worry Free Toddlers

Hakuna Matata! You would have heard this word in movie “The Lion King”, that means Don’t Worry. This is such a suitable word for a child. When you think of children, the first thing that pops into your mind is their laughter and carefree behavior.

Children can also have their own worries, especially once they step into school, they may feel bothered about the bunch of new friends, teachers and build new relationships, such as:  “Why they are not playing with me?” How do you inculcate a behavioral tool within your child to help them to fight against such worries and enjoy the life to the fullest? Try including below habits in your daily lifestyle:

  1. Listen Actively: Ask them about their day at school, be sure to ask about what your kids think and feel about what happened. If your child seems to be worried about something, encourage kids to put their worry into words. Listen actively & try to understand their points of view. Sometimes just sharing the story with you can help lighten their load.
  2. Show you care and understand. Tell your child that you understand his/her concerns it help kids to feel supported and understood. Reassuring comments can help them to deal with it.
  3. Guide kids to solutions. They seek your help & support to reduce worries, guide them to deal with challenging situations. When your child tells you about a problem, offer to help and come up with a solution together. By taking an active role in reaching to solutions, kids will slowly learn how to tackle a problem on their own.
  4. Highlight the positive. Ask your kids what they enjoyed about their day. They may tell you mix of good & bad things. Focus the good things with interest when they tell you about the fun they had in school. Teach him that it is always best to overcome the bad things that happened during the day with simple things that made him smile.
  5. Invest in family bonding: In every family, there has to be understanding and respect between the members. If you and your spouse are constantly arguing, it could have adverse effect on your child and leave him/her feeling stressed and worried. As parents, you need to learn to resolve your issues or conflicts and try your best to present a good example to them.
  6. Don’t ignore health: Nutrition plays a primary role in mental health, and poor nutrition can lead to problems such as anxiety and depression.

As a parent, you should play the role of being a good supporter & all time favoritism guide of your child. You need to tell your child that worrying doesn’t really going to help and show a way to shave off the anxieties and live a worry-free life.
