Meera fought her demons to be a loving mother with a dream

Looking at her little Shreya singing, dancing & laughing with other children at the party Meera was taken on memory trip to the last 3 yrs. 3 yrs felt like eternity to her now, 3 difficult years after Shreya’s birth. The thrill & happiness around the birth of her first child was enveloped with feeling of anxiety & being grounded by a new born who was completely depended on her for all her needs. The initial few months were a roller coaster ride of abrupt & unsteady feeding & sleeping cycle. She was consumed completely in her child’s requirements & had very or no time for herself.
Meera’s thoughts wondered further down the memory lane, when Meera & Jay had moved to Pune from Mumbai  & had planned for a child  3 yrs back . It was a tough decision at the prime of her career but as a couple they were ready. Like any other couple they were hoping for their parents to be an active support through this journey, however this decade had taken a toll over her parent’s health &  they were unable to come to a different city to take care of their grandchild. Meera & Jay didnt want to  burden Jay’s ailing parents too. They did try a few nannies who could take care of Shreya when Meera joined work post her maternity break but somehow that did not work well. As parents they were constantly worried about the wellbeing of their child who was home alone with an unskilled caretaker. Meera was the on the verge of quitting her job, but thats when Jay recommended her to try out daycares as some of his colleagues were using it and were very happy. Meera was unsure but decided to try, and  when she visited daycares near her office, she was completely taken aback by the state of art setups that welcomed her. The focus on Safety, Growth & development in daycare industry surprised her & gave her hope. First time after giving birth she felt that she could leave behind her child in someone’s supervision & go to work without having to feel guilty about it. Not only that, she found friends who were like minded and they formed a Super mommies club.
Daycare let Meera live her life along with motherhood. It allowed Meera to have an identity for herself other than just being a mother. Meera was bought back to the party by Shreya’s loud laughter and her friends calling out to her to come to the cake cutting – Supper mommies club was completing a year and this was their celebration playdate party. Meera joined Shreya and took her in her arms and sang along with the song in the background – Dil hain chota sa, choti si asha, aasmano ko chune ki asha.
