Top Preschools in the Country – EW Study

Let’s congratulate 527 preschools in 16 cities pan India which were ranked by EducationWorld (EW) India. Along with Mumbai & Delhi, the 8th Annual preschool ranking research survey was done in 14 other cities like Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kochi, Bhubaneshwar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Bhopal, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad and Noida.
The most important decision that a parent makes is of finding a right preschool for their kids; rankings & ratings help the parents figure out which one to choose. Considering the current scenario & the increase in crime against small children, this year’s survey had given utmost priority to safety & hygiene.
The parameters of assessment were:
1. Competence of faculty,
2. Teacherwelfare,
3. Infrastructure,
4. Individual attention to students,
5. Value for money,
6. Leadership/management quality,
7. Parental involvement,
8. Innovative teaching,
9. Safety and hygiene, and
10. Facilities for special needschildren.
Preschools that were assessed by less than 30 respondentswere not considered for ranking. The scores awarded to every preschoolunder each parameter were totalled to rank them. All the parameterswere given equal weightage except ‘competence of teachers’ which wasgiven double the weightage

Details of few of these parameters are shared below:
1. Teacher competence: How skilled the teachers are in choosing assessment methods, administering, scoring and interpreting the results, developing curriculum & school improvement, etc is yet another factor considered.

2. Safety & Hygiene: Factors like floors, walls, kitchen area are clean; trash cans aren’t overflowing, proper light & ventilation in the premises, small children are supervised all the time, strangers shouldn’t be able to just walk are considered. First-aid kit and fire extinguisher should be close at hand.

3. Student – Teacher relationship is the key: From a preschooler point of view, who has just moved out of home &it’s their first time spending a large portion of their day away meeting new faces (their teachers).

4. A good reputation: Welcoming, friendly atmosphere & nurturing environment is what a good preschool have.

5. Staff Turnover Rate: If the staff turnover rate is low it means the staff is very happy, they aren’t under paid, their welfare is looked upon, the preschool will by default be managed very well.

6. Training Methods: The preschool if provides training for early childhood teachers and administrators to understand and interpret standardized tests and other measures of learning and development.
