5 Tips to wake up toddlers early in the morning for Preschool

The time for preschools to start has come which means a whole new routine of the family has to be established. From relaxed, lazy days of summers to early rising, packed schedules, homework, after-school activities are in life now.  The most difficult part of these is the early morning waking up the toddlers after months of sleeping late and getting them ready for preschool. So, best is to start preparing atleast a week in advance.

Here are 5 tips which can make your kid a early riser –

1. Proper sleep

Most kids don’t get proper sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, babies and toddlers typically need 12 hours of sleep during the night; preschoolers up to 13 hours; kids aged 5-12,10 to 11 hours; and children aged 10-18, 8.5 to 9.5 hours per night.  Make sure your little one get proper sleep , so that she/he won’t be cranky in the morning.

2. Early Bed time

As every parent knows, bedtime is actually an hours-long process. Start it at around 8pm so that the kid will sleep by 9pm. Decide on your best bedtime and than work backwards, giving your child ample time for each step (homework, dinner, play time, chill time, bath and other nighttime grooming, and books), and you might find that your bedtime routine needs to start a whole lot earlier than you thought.

3. Clam and cheerful wakeup time

It’s always better to start the day on happy note. Keep wake-up time calm, natural  and positive. You can start your toddler day with a goodmorning song. A cheerful way of waking up uplifts the mood of kid. It may happen that  your child yells or even screams when it’s time for them to get out of the bed but a positive energy from your side don’t match their negative energy. This avoids the unnecessary stress in morning.

4. Schedule Morning routine

It’s important to be well prepared for morning battles. Make sure you’re up at least an hour before the kids. Do the preparation of lunch and breakfast night before and have their clothes laid out. So, that you can have extra time when it’s time to wake up your sleeping angels.

5. Morning Goals

Keep morning goals for toddlers. Make them understand that they’ll earn more privileges  if they get up at the designated hour, or finish their breakfast or get dressed on time. The privileges may be their favorite breakfast, extra time on the computer/mobile or playtime, a visit to their favorite time zone etc.
