How to convert waste materials into wonderful toys?

Children are constant learners, are they? They love to play, explore and learn through observation. so they easily get bored with most of the toys, irrespective of their expenses. Sometimes we buy costly toys by dreaming that they will play with them for hours. But most of the times , they just explore it for few minutes and throw it away. And this is the reason why I never buy such readymade toys for my boy and instead , invest the money in books.

If you are ready to spend some of your time and utilise your creativity, you can make variety of toys for your little ones by using waste materials around your home. These are far better than readymade ones because you are filling the toys with your love.

In this blog, I am going to tell you how to make a parking garage for your vehicle lover munchkin.

Readymade garages are available in the market but they are really expensive and trust me, you can make your own parking garage with a ramp and a tunnel at a cheaper rate and your kid gonna love this.

Materials needed :

  • Empty cardboard box (I used one that comes with pressure cooker)
  • cardboard piece to make ramp.
  • cylinder (you can use tissue paper roll/party popper cylinder / Pringles can etc)
  • white/coloured chart paper
  • Sketch pens
  • craft knife (or blade)
  • glue
  • cello tape

How to make:

Draw some rectangles and arch shapes on two sides of the card board. These are the entrance and exit doors of your garage.

Cut the 3 sides of rectangles and arch shapes leaving the bottom part. so that it will form a pathway to the garage.

Close the box and fix all the sides of the box thoroughly with cello tape.

Paste the chart paper all over the box and decorate as you wish.

Now we can fix ramp and tunnel.

Take a card board piece, paste the chart paper and decorate it. This is the ramp.

Fix it properly to the upper part of the box .

You can make a small cut and insert some centimeters of card board piece into the box and fix with a cello tape , so that it will not come out when playing.

Similarly, fix the cylinder on the other side properly.

And that’s it!! Give it to your kid and let him explore how vehicles move through an inclined plane, how they come out through a tunnel, how we can arrange the vehicles beautifully and how they enter and come out of a garage.

Do try this in your home and let me know how your kids loved it.

Happy parenting! 🙂
