Sexual activity won’t affect your baby. The amniotic sac and the strong muscles of the uterus keeps your baby safe. Thick mucus plug that seals the cervix protects you and the baby against infection. However if you feel any kind of discomfort you should avoid it and speak to your doctor.

What are the best sexual positions during pregnancy?
You have to be experimental to find the most comfortable sex position for you. In the later stage of your pregnancy intercourse may become more challenging for you. Your partner should avoid putting his weight on your abdomen. You should also avoid lie down on your tummy as well. That’s why missionary position (man on top) is not advisable. Few safe positions you can try are:

  • Lie sideways – This helps your partner to keep most of his weight off your uterus.
  • Lie side-by-side or spoons position – This involves no weight on your belly and allows for only shallow penetration.
  • Get on top – This position also doesn’t put weight on your abdomen and allows you to control the depth of penetration. This also provides higher sexual satisfaction in pregnant women.
  • Make love sitting down – In this position try to sit on your partner’s lap as he sits on a chair. You can control the depth of penetration by standing up or by squatting down.

You should also maintain your hygiene before and after making love. Keep your pelvic area clean after intercourse with tissue paper or clean cloth. Any kind of lubricating creams or gels should be avoided as it may cause allergies or irritation to your skin. For any concern you shouldn’t hesitate to speak to your doctor.
