Secret Unplugged: Being a Fit and Healthy Mom

One of the most amazing experiences in a women’s life is pregnancy. It is truly a very special journey. At the same time it brings considerable physical and emotional change for women – from the size of the belly to the speed at which the heart beats changes over the nine months.

It’s never been easy to lose weight and losing weight after child birth becomes a tedious task. Life takes a whole new turn after the arrival of a little one. That’s why exercise during pregnancy is important. And it is the perfect path to faster postpartum weight loss and recovery.

Post pregnancy, every women thinks “will I ever get my normal body back?” Yes, you will, with a bit of effort, your body will return to a more normal state to a large extent, probably within a year. There are many moms who have done this and are fit.

The fundamental of fitness journey is not to just lose weight but to adopt a healthier lifestyle for a lifetime.  Making yourself a priority may not be an option as there is an unending list of to-do’s after the arrival of the new baby. However finding an hour for yourself is important.

But what a mom can do is feel proud. Everyone in this world is having time crunch where they are unable to find even an hour for themselves. As moms, we tend to prioritize everything ahead of ourselves and with the arrival of new baby, it becomes difficult to keep our own health in a priority list.

We owe everything to our bodies so it is our accountability to keep our body healthy and fit. Everyday workout in any form is important to keep the body going. According to Rujuta Diwekar, a renowned nutritionist “No matter what our work-schedules are, there is no excuse for not eating right and not exercising.”  Eating right and clean contributes to around 80% in the fitness journey.  The balance diet secret lies in eating not more or less, but just right and at the right time.

We need to take out time to work out at least three hours a week.Try to commit 15 minute for strength training, 45 minute walk and some stretches in the day. If your schedule allows,  try to get enrolled in any workout classes like Zumba, yoga, kickboxing or aerobics. Find a fitness partner who is sailing in the same boat,  this way you can be more accountable to your fitness journey.

Even if you don’t have that kind of time, try doing small things. Dipanwita Gupta, a mom with a 5 year old son, says that she has a hectic schedule and its difficult for her to make out time for exercise. What she does is take stairs instead of the lift to her office. And tries to walk whenever she get the chance in her daily schedule. For moms like Priyanka Sharma, Ruchita Srivastava, Latika Arora Khurana and Diya Kapur Misra, the key to be fit has been Yoga. For moms Rina Shah and Anshu Mordia, the new dance form Zumba works.

Fitness journey is all about focusing on feeling good and healthy and not just losing weight.Women have immense strength to create a miracle in the form of new life. You just need to pay little attention to your health and have little me-time After all happy and healthy moms raise happy and healthy kids.
