While this \u00a0brings exciting possibilities, it is also important to make sure your \u00a0child is well prepared for this move.<\/p>\n

In a crowded school atmosphere, health and hygiene are more important \u00a0than ever. You can help your child appreciate the value of good \u00a0hygiene by encouraging them to follow some simple personal grooming \u00a0habits.<\/p>\n

Every parent wants the best for their children. They want children to \u00a0grow and become the best version of them. But, all this starts with \u00a0the habits you teach them. The habits you teach them before they start \u00a0school will stay with them forever.<\/p>\n

Leading daycare & preschool Amelio believes that it\u2019s very important \u00a0that as a parent you imbibe healthy habits in your kids. \u00a0Here they \u00a0list down the important habits that must be taught to your child to \u00a0help them make the most of their schooling years. After all you don\u2019t \u00a0want them to troubled with illness all the time when at school because \u00a0of their bad habits.<\/p>\n

Sathish Kumar Thiyagarajan<\/strong>, Head – Curriculum at Amelio Early Education<\/strong><\/a> mentions these must be taught habits to your children –<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0Brushing:<\/strong>
\nStress on the need for your child to brush their teeth all by \u00a0themselves twice a day. Make this a part of their daily routine and \u00a0get them to take pride in their independence in completing this task.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Washing\u00a0hands:<\/strong>
\nThe best way to inculcate this is to lead by example. Ensure that you \u00a0and your family members don\u2019t eat anything without washing your hands, \u00a0or wash your hands and feet immediately after returning home from \u00a0outside.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Covering\u00a0mouth\u00a0and\u00a0nose:<\/strong>
\nGive your child their own set of handkerchiefs to take care of \u00a0responsibly. Tell them about the threat of germs when a handkerchief \u00a0is not used to cover their mouth and nose while sneezing or coughing.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Toilet\u00a0training:<\/strong>
\nBy this age, your child must already be acquainted with the concept of \u00a0toilet training, and has probably even mastered it. However, using \u00a0unfamiliar toilets might still be a problem for them. Talk to them \u00a0about identifying their toileting needs and using a clean toilet, and \u00a0encourage them to ask caregivers for help if needed. Also ensure that \u00a0they know how to clean up after themselves – this includes washing \u00a0themselves, flushing correctly, and washing and drying their hands.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0Taking\u00a0care\u00a0of\u00a0their\u00a0nails:<\/strong>
\nMake nail cutting a part of their weekly or fortnightly routine – you \u00a0can even use a calendar to mark the days and encourage them to take it \u00a0up as a responsibility.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Washing\u00a0face:<\/strong>
\nEncourage your child to wash their face on their own before going out \u00a0of the house and after returning from outside. Tell them that dirt and \u00a0grime on the face are a strict no-no.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0A\u00a0neat\u00a0hair-do:<\/strong>
\nSchools are usually strict about the hairstyles that children can have \u00a0in the interest of maintaining a neat appearance. Get your child to \u00a0take interest in brushing their own hair and enforce a \u2018no hair on the \u00a0face\u2019 policy. For boys, this means a neat haircut and combing their \u00a0hair back to keep it in place. For girls, this means using hair bands, \u00a0clips and other accessories for a variety of neat hairstyles.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0Zero\u00a0tolerance\u00a0for\u00a0unwelcome\u00a0habits:<\/strong>
\nDiscourage unwelcome and messy habits like digging their nose, picking \u00a0their teeth, spitting, biting their nails etc. Teach them the \u00a0difference between good hygiene habits and bad hygiene habits, and how \u00a0to tell them apart.<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0Taking\u00a0care\u00a0of\u00a0own\u00a0grooming\u00a0equipment:<\/strong>
\nA great way to get your child involved in their personal hygiene while \u00a0simultaneously encouraging responsibility is to include them in the \u00a0purchase of their own hygiene products. Toothbrushes, soaps, towels, \u00a0personal combs and hair accessories, even their own nail cutter – \u00a0involve your child in the decision of these purchases, and encourage \u00a0them to take care of these by themselves.<\/p>\n

10.\u00a0Avoiding\u00a0hair\u00a0lice:<\/strong>
\nSchools can be a breeding ground for hair lice, and this problem \u00a0spreads very quickly. Tell your child about the ill-effects of lice \u00a0and give them some tips to avoid catching lice. A good rule of thumb \u00a0is to avoid any direct or indirect head contact – this includes not \u00a0sharing helmets, hair bands, clips etc.<\/p>\n
