Should Children be ready for Playschool or Should Playschool be ready for children?

Parents are most concerned about the right age to start the preschool, it is often seen that parents are also observant in deciding what their children are going to learn in their preschools in a specially designed curriculum and a positive environment. Every parent wants that the preschool their children go to, should bring out the best in their child. However sometimes, being too obsessed with performance and results, children may fall prey to early childhood stress. As parents, you should not put children under so much pressure to perform well to reach their milestones that they forget to live and explore the world around.

In conversation with Mansi Talwar (Parent Engagement Head) Kara4Kids, she explains how Parents differ in their opinions about how much kids need at their age. Parents sometimes do express concerns that kids need to perform well so they get into the good main schools. While high expectations can be healthy, placing constant pressure of these expectations on children can be harmful.

Parents are concerned about their child knowing to read and write while they get into their first year of school. While all preschools strive to encompass all important aspects, they differ in the focus of their approach – some could be more “academic” while others are more “play-based”, and some a combination of both. Mansi further explains while attending a play-based learning curriculum how the kids are happiest and learn to enjoy every moment while they learn the life skills.

Mansi Shares a few Top tips why Play-Based Preschools Foster Happier and Healthier Children.

As per recent researches it is seen that early childhood experts advocate for certain preschool practices that have been proven beneficial. These include play, exploration, hands-on learning, social interaction, sensory activities, and real-world experiences. They criticize practices only focusing academics that are not developmentally appropriate and cause young children needless stress.

  • Play is the way kids make sense of the world. It promotes the deepest kind of learning by encouraging kids to become self-directed learners who explore, develop curiosity, and solve their own problems.
  • Play is the most effective way for young children to learn, develop social skills, and regulate their emotions.
  • Focus is more about play, creativity, and socialization. Children reach a state of equilibrium when playing. This gives them the emotional and mental readiness to tackle new and challenging tasks at school.
  • Play based learning let kids use their imaginations and pretending to be firefighters, chefs, doctors, veterinarians, and superheroes – fostering independent and self-motivated learners.
  • Providing a creative environment to stimulate creative thinking and kids can express what activities they wish to do, instead of getting spoon-fed information.
  • Mentors help kids plan their play and extend it for days to come.
  • Play is the most effective way to promote language skills (using proper tone of voice, eye contact, facial cues, hand gestures, body language) and build vocabulary.
  • Play based learning allows kids to break free without limiting their conversation by having them sit still for long periods at one place.

A child’s social skills in the early years are a significant indicator of their future school involvement and performance. Most preschools start accepting kids around the age of 2, but since every child is different, this isn’t a magic number. Preschool readiness really depends more on developmental factors than chronological age. Is your little one physically, emotionally, and socially ready for the classroom? Lots to consider here in making this big decision. Before you consider enrolling your 2 year old in preschool, be sure within yourself that are you as a parent ready for it. While the children living their childhood to the fullest and do not forget to be kids and learn in most safe and encouraging environment is the most important aspect of the major decision.
