Sunny days are here. Schools are out. But kids can’t go out to play. So what to do when kids are getting bored. Come to your rescue are some really cool and superfun DIY activities. Otherwise, they may end up getting too much screen time.
These ideas are simple, yet are fun and designed to keep kids busy this summer!
Homemade Bubbles
Supplies required – Mason Jar, 3 cups of water, 6 tablespoons of Light Karo Syrup, 3/4 cup of dishwashing liquid, Plastic Cup & Bubble Wands
Directions: Mix all of the ingredients together and have a blast! That’s it!
Tip: Pour enough of the solution to cover the entire end of the bubble wand. I was stingy at first, but more bubble solution = more bubbles. You can always pour it back in to the mason jar when you’re done!
DIY Construction Site Activity Tray
Kids love playing with sand, rocks, and dirt, and this DIY construction site activity allows them to play with their trucks inside if the weather is bad. Think of this project as a mini tabletop or floor-sized sandbox without the sand or dirt. All you need are some small toy trucks, some wooden trays, and some lentils as the “sand.” This activity will keep your children busy for hours and away from video games and TV.
Mini aquarium sensory bottles
Make mini aquarium sensory bottles so kids can tap on the aquarium wall without getting in trouble as they shake up some ocean animals, make some waves, and learn about the creatures of the sea.
Supplies – Sand, Empty bottle, Small ocean animal toys, Water, Blue food coloring (optional), Small shells (optional)
Directions-
Fill bottle with approximately 2 inches of sand and then with water. If the sand is dusty overflow the water bottle so the dust runs out (the sand should stay at the bottom of the bottle). To prepare their aquarium have child add small shells and a drop of blue food coloring to the water. Next have them select animals and put them inside their aquarium. Close the bottle tight and the sensory bottle is ready to be played with.
Jungle Book
This summer camp by Maple Bear will be strung along the storyline of Jungle Book. The children will learn about the types of forests, where they exist and its habitat. They will also learn about the importance of forests and how it is related to climate change. Language, experiments, drama, music, art & craft and outdoor play will be an integral part of the camp.
Photography project
Take out that old camera which you have not used in years. Let your child click some random pictures in the first few days. Once he is comfortable with the functions, give themes/ projects. Let him click few birds, pets, passer-by’s. This is a very interesting activity with a lot to learn. Amelio centres have Digital Photography as a part of their summer camps where children are taught professional shooting techniques combined with hands-on and field-based learning.
