8 Activities to Celebrate Earth Day with Your Toddler

The Earth Day, celebrated on 22 April every year, is an awesome time to introduce important concepts such as recycling, reusing and pollution to children. Even toddlers can get involved and learn how to help our planet from an early age.

I wanted to share these hands on activities that we did on this Earth day. Earth Day activities can be done any time not just on Earth Day.

Some of the activities that we did were,

  1. Newspaper earth – We drew a circle on the newspaper, cut it, stuck it on our craft book and painted it like earth’s image. To show love towards earth we painted heart in the centre of it.
  2. Earth beard – We made a circle shape on the bread, with blue & green coloured water we coloured the earth with water drops using a filler.
  3. Land and water animals sorting – We assumed blue water as sea and green gram as land and sorted the animals and did some sensory play.
  4. Model Earth – With playdoh we made a miniature 2D Earth.
  5. Earth with Slime – We made the earth model with blue and green coloured slime and some sensory play time
  6. Nature fusion colouring – I made an outline of the picture of nature and my son coloured it with different methods ( finger painting, brush painting and colouring with sketch pen ). And he wrote save trees on it thus learning to not cut trees and only grow them.
  7. Planting Seeds – We planted fenugreek seeds and watered all the other plants as well. Thereby we will also learn the life cycle of a plant.
  8. Books – We read some books from the environmental series. ( Save Animals, Trees, Energy and Water )

Besides these, we also discussed the basic properties of earth, how it has to be treated and how we can protect it.
